2025: Year in Sport

My Year in Sport, using data from my Apple Watch, Wahoo Bolt, and personal notes & recollections.
I consolidate all data in Apple Health as my single source of truth, using HealthFit to import third-party .fit files.

2025 activities

I went running 32 times with in my local run club Mates&Miles for a total distance of 314km - more than 10% of my yearly distance.

I started in 21 races in total, mostly runs except 3 rowing regattas. The most notable was of course my sub-3:15 marathon finish in April.

I reached my peak running form in July where I can my fastest ever 10k in 37:06. Compared to that, my almost sub-1:30 half marathon finish at my "home race" in Blankense was not as fast as I hoped.

My longest bike ride was 212km from Hamburg to Föhr in a single ride, and my biggest climb 828m at the Puig Major with Gruppetto and Sa Calobra was climbed in 40:45.

After a big cycling crash in August, my bike season was over and my fitness declined rapidly again - which I got to realize at the very end of the year, where I started my next 18-week marathon training block.

Shortly after the crash I got myself an indoor trainer and finished my first Zwift Ride in October.

In 2025 I also started a project of running along all four subway lines in Hamburg, I started with the shortest one U4 in September, 14km, but didn't complete any further runs for various reasons (read: excuses).

Goals for 2026

Run my second ever marathon at least as fast as before, which at the start of year feels like a big challenge already. I hope to string along a couple of good training weeks during this training block. Also, I am already signed up to the 2026 Heldenlauf in Blankense again - wanting an even stronger finish this year.

Break the 3000km barrier in running this year, just about 8.2km per day on average.

But most importantly: have a lot of fun, great runs with friends, long coffee rides, flying across the water in rowing racing shells and staying injury and crash free.
